Bill would provide meaningful Patent Pro Bono support to inventors across America
Washington, D.C. (Dec. 1, 2022) — Holly Fechner, Executive Director of Invent Together, an alliance focused on narrowing the diversity gaps in invention and patenting, issued the following statement after the Senate Judiciary Committee passed the Unleashing American Innovators Act:
“We're grateful to Senators Patrick Leahy, Thom Tillis and Mazie Hirono for their leadership on this bill, and we look forward to working with them to get it to the President's desk this year. This commonsense bill helps build a more diverse and vibrant innovation economy in the United States. With the necessary support, the USPTO can increase patenting participation, leading to more U.S. job creation, entrepreneurial activity, economic growth, and global leadership in innovation.”
The Unleashing American Innovators Act, a bipartisan, bicameral bill, directs the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) to study and improve the Patent Pro Bono Program, expand eligibility for the Program, establish a new USPTO satellite office in the southeast region, and establish community outreach offices to increase engagement with prospective inventors.
