Bill Will Help Provide Crucial Data Needed to Empower Diverse Inventors
Washington, D.C. (May 19, 2021) — Today, Invent Together’s Executive Director Holly Fechner issued the following statement on the Senate’s approval of an amendment adding the bipartisan, bicameral Inventor Diversity for Economic Advancement (IDEA) Act to the Endless Frontiers Act (EFA):
“Invent Together commends the Senate for including the Inventor Diversity for Economic Advancement (IDEA) Act into the Endless Frontiers Act (EFA). In particular, we thank the committed sponsors of the IDEA Act, Sens. Mazie K. Hirono (D-HI) and Thom Tillis (R-NC), for fighting to support inventors regardless of gender, race, or income.
“The IDEA Act will gather critical data on a voluntary basis to better understand the unique challenges faced by women, people of color, and those from low-income backgrounds in the patenting process. The bill is a crucial step toward ensuring that our nation’s inventors have equal access to the benefits of patenting and that the United States can use the full measure of our talent to compete globally.
“We urge the Senate to pass this important piece of legislation and look forward to the House advancing the companion, H.R. 1273, which was introduced by Representatives Velazquez (D-NY) and Stivers (D-OH).”
